The MLB offseason is (almost) in full swing as it has been over a month since the world series concluded. The Boston Red Sox are basking in their victory while every other team is determined to finish a level above their 2018 performance. Awards have been announced and outstanding players have been recognized. The next big step is the introduction of eye-popping contracts. The MLB and CBS have outlined these very important dates and some significant action has already taken place.
The current headline in offseason moves is the Arizona Diamondbacks send All-Star first baseman, Paul Goldschmidt, to the St. Louis Cardinals. While he only has one more year on contract before free agency, this investment could pay off big time for the Cardinals. This should be the first of many newsworthy stories of this month, however. The MLB’s winter meetings are to take place from December 9th – 13th. This is the time when rumors run amok and players secure groundbreaking deals. This year’s top free agents consist of Manny Machado, Bryce Harper, and Clayton Kershaw. League complexity typically changes greatly in the offseason and this year should be no different.
Only about four more months until opening day!
